Abbas Ahmad Akhundi told reporters on Tuesday that the details of the deal would be public within upcoming days; “during the agreement with Airbus which was renewed agreement, we effectively cut all third-party dealers and brokers, bringing a saving of $5-7mn for the country; a former deal stipulated buying 6 Airbus A330 passenger jets for an inordinate amount. Iran’s air fleet should operate 400 mid-range and 100 short-range planes to keep up with ever-increasing pace of competitions in the region which will translate into making lump sum of $50bn in investments into the economy,” he told the press.
Akhundi also added that the details of a similar deal with American Boeing would be publicized; “deal with Airbus would need 16 years to be realized fully; this will give Iran an edge in the region in terms of using global markets for improving domestic economy,” he asserted.
“To bringing Iran into the center of air corridors is a high-priority plan for the ministry; we urged all providers to abandon negotiations with brokers and dealers to secure savings in price for both sides,” he recommended.
